Remember, you read it first on IndianAuto! Skoda India has upped its game for the Indian market with the new India 2.0 project. Under the new ideology, the brand has decided to take the Indian market by storm. Recently, the Czech carmaker has launched the BS-6 Rapid in the Indian market with a smaller yet powerful 1.0L TSI motor at a starting price of Rs. 7.99 lakh for the Rider Plus trim. However, the Rapid TSI initially went on sale for a base price of Rs. 7.49 lakh. All of it clearly shows the efforts that Skoda is putting in to make more sales in the Indian market. The carmaker also showcased the Vision IN Concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. Now, the carmaker is all set to launch the new-gen Octavia and a mid-size SUV by next year.

All-new Skoda Octavia & a Mid-size SUV Slated For Launch Next Year

Mr. Zac Hollis, Director Sales & Marketing, Skoda India, recently shared on Twitter about the brand’s plans. When a Skoda fan asked Hollis if the carmaker will launch the Scala in India, he replied, “We have no plans to launch this car in India. Next year we will launch a new mid-sized SUV and a new Sedan.” While the mid-sized SUV is speculated to be the production-spec version of the Vision IN concept, the new sedan that Hollis talked about is the all-new Octavia. The test mules of the all-new Octavia were spotted last week on test for the first time on Indian soil sans camouflage. The Vision IN is considered to be the mid-sized SUV that Zac talks of because it measures 4,256 mm in length. To put things into perspective, Hyundai Creta is 4,300 mm long.

Moreover, when the Skoda fan asked if there would be a diesel engine option on offer, Zac reverted, “No we will focus on the fuel-efficient and powerful TSI petrol engines.” This statement confirms Skoda India’s plans to stay away from diesel engines like Maruti Suzuki, Renault and many other carmakers. Thus, all-new Skoda Octavia will come propelled with the 1.5L TSI motor that also does duties on the Karoq. It is capable of dishing out a max output of 150 PS and 250 Nm. Transmission options will include a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed DSG.
