Maruti Suzuki India Limited has recently confirmed that a majority of the buyers of the S-Presso crossover hatchback opt for the top-trims.

Maruti S-Presso is the latest new car offering by the largest carmaker in India. Launched last year in September, the car was an instant success in our market, selling upwards of 10,000 units during the month of its launch! The company has revealed that more than 50,000 units have been sold till date, and most of the customers (read- 97%) have opted for the top-trims, ‘VXi’ and ‘VXi+’.

Top trims of Maruti S-Presso are more popular

There are plenty of reasons why the car is extremely successful in India. Firstly, the SUV-inspired look of the car is extremely bold, and gives it a decent road presence. Its quirky design almost never fails to turn heads, especially with the brighter paint options. Secondly, the car is extremely affordable as it's priced between Rs. 3.7 lakh and 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Thirdly, it has an extremely frugal engine, which also lends decent performance to this extremely lightweight car. Fourth, the ‘VXi’ and ‘VXi+’ trims are available with an AMT gearbox. The popularity of automatic gearboxes is steadily rising, owing to the convenience offered while driving in the urban environment. Lastly, the price difference between the trims is quite small, which prompts people to opt for higher trims and receive better equipment.

The VXi+ and VXi trims of the S-Presso offers a few features over the lower trims, like central locking, speed-sensing door locks, impact-sensing door unlock, a built-in radio/music system with Bluetooth, USB, and AUX connectivity, and remote key. You also get a gear position indicator in the instrument console. For a price of Rs. 4.32 lakh (4.75 lakh for AMT), these are quite a few nifty features to have in your car.

The top-spec ‘VXi+’ trim features even more equipment. There is a 7-inch touchscreen ‘Smartplay’ infotainment system onboard, along with door-open warning, seatbelt pretensioners and force limiter (front row), and front-passenger airbag. For these upgrades, you just have to pay an additional Rs. 24,000 over the ‘VXi’, for a total of Rs. 4.56 lakh (Rs.4.99 lakh for AMT), which is quite a bargain in all honesty!

Maruti S-Presso is underpinned by the ‘Heartect Kei’ platform, which is a modified version of the same platform that is used on the JDM-spec Suzuki Alto. In our market, the car rivals the likes of Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-Go.
