Around 1,500 Units of New Mahindra Thar Recalled for Potential Camshaft Defect

New-gen Mahindra Thar was one of the biggest hits in the automobile market in 2020. The new version of the off-roader was so successful that the waiting period for this car has gone up to 6 months. Right now, only a number of customers who booked the new-gen Thar have received their cars. Lately, Mahindra has recalled 1,577 units of the Mahindra Thar due to a possible flaw with the camshaft. This is the first recall of this model after its launch.

Mahindra has recalled 1,500 units of Mahindra Thar owing to the possible defect with the camshaft 

Specifically, Mahindra has recalled all Mahindra Thar units produced from 7^th September 2020 to 25^th December 2020, owing to a possible defect in the camshaft. It is said that this can cause a dip in fuel pressure. Apparently, it is suggested that the camshaft was not produced as the original design. Owners of vehicles included in this recall plan are asked to visit the nearest Mahindra dealerships to receive proper care.

After receiving feedback on this possible issue, Mahindra has quickly responded and issued a recall to fix the problem. A few owners of the Mahindra Thar that received this fix from the car manufacturer reported an increase of 2 to 2.5 kmpl in the overall fuel economy.

Mahindra Thar has received overwhelming responses from the Indian customers 

At the moment, Mahindra Thar is priced from Rs 12.10 lakh to Rs 14.15 lakh (ex-showroom). In the beginning, the Thar was available in both six- and four-seater configurations. However, later on, the six-seater version was discontinued due to the safety concern. On the other hand, it is likely that Mahindra will add a convertible hardtop version of the Thar soon. The off-roader is now available with fixed hardtop, fixed soft top and convertible soft top options.

Mahindra Thar is powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. These engines are capable of making 150 Bhp and 130 Bhp, respectively. A six-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard while a six-speed torque converter automatic is available as an option. Coming up next, Mahindra will be introducing the second-gen XUV500 in India in the first haft of 2021. The new-gen XUV500 will be followed by new-gen Scorpio which is expected to go on sale by the second half of this year.
