Before entering the Indian market, the Land Rover Defender has received considerable success across the world. It is expected that Land Rover Defender will be warmly welcomed in our country. Before Land Rover Defender, the British car brand has attracted a huge following in our market with the Land Rover Range Rover. This model is particularly loved by Indian celebrities. It is no wonder that the Land Rover Defender can create a new craze among Bollywood stars. It is expected that in the coming months, there will be more celebrities to take the Range Rover Defender home.
Land Rover Defender is underpinned by the D7X platform. For the all-new Defender, the British car brand sports some highlight features like the split LED taillights, and aluminium casting on the windows. Apart from these new elements, the Defender stays mostly identical to the original design. In our market, Land Rover Defender is offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder BSVI petrol engine. This engine is capable of generating a top power of 293 Bhp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. It comes exclusively with an automatic gearbox.
Offroading capability is the key attribute of all Land Rover models, and Land Rover Defender is no exception. The Defender is fitted with Terrain Response 2 system. Moreover, the Defender can raise its ground clearance by 145mm, allowing the driver to find the ideal traction in different terrains. What’s more, the ground clearance can be lowered by 50 mm for easier ingress and egress. The water wading depth of the Defender is rated at 900 mm. On the top-spec model, the Defender comes with a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, automatic climate control, connected car technology, 360-degree camera, and many more.
Before the launch, Land Rover started receiving bookings for the new Land Rover Defender at an introductory price which is lower than the official price by up to Rs 4 lakh. Customers who submitted bookings later will have to buy the Land Rover Defender at full price. Still, at the moment, Land Rover only opens booking for the 110 version. It is expected that bookings for the three-door Defender 90 will star around April-June 2021. Land Rover imports the SUV via the CBU route.
