Bigger Jeep Compass (7-seater) to Rival Toyota Fortuner

Jeep India will launch the 7-seat Compass by the Q2 of next year. The new Jeep SUV will be based on the company's 'Small Wide 4X4' platform. The same platform also underpins the Compass and Renegade.

As many of you may already know, Jeep plans to launch the an updated version of the Compass and a 7-seat SUV in the Indian market by next year. We expect the carmaker to introduce the Compass facelift by Q1 of 2021 and the 7-seater SUV is expected to hit the showroom floors in Q2 of 2021. Moreover, due to the ongoing unfavourable situation, the India-launch of the all-new 7-seat SUV, which is codenamed as Low D 3-row, has got delayed for a few months. The upcoming 7-seat SUV will be developed on the ‘Small Wide 4X4’ platform, which also underpins the Compass and Renegade.

Practically, the upcoming model will be an extended version of the Jeep Compass that will compete against Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour

This will surely help Jeep price the all-new SUV more aggressively. The 7-seat Jeep will be manufactured at FCA’s production facility in Ranjangaon, near Pune. The manufacturing plant will also be used to export the all-new SUV to the right-hand-drive export markets. Recent reports, suggests that the upcoming 7-seat SUV will be named as Jeep Grand Compass.

The all-new car is expected to be an extended version of the Compass. Nevertheless, the carmaker has already confirmed that the new SUV will be completely different from its younger sibling. One can expect the car to share some of its styling cues with the Chinese Grand Commander.

The 7-seater SUV will be manufactured at FCA's production facility in Pune

Moreover, the wheelbase of the upcoming Jeep SUV is expected will be 100-150 mm longer than that of the Compass. The all-new 7-seater Jeep SUV will be propelled by a 2.0-litre turbocharged oil burner that produces 170bhp of peak power and 350 Nm of twisting force. The automaker could also introduce a twin-turbo version of the diesel motor, which is expected to produce 200bhp of maximum power output. Jeep will also launch the petrol-powered version of the SUV. Once launched, the 7-seater Jeep Compass will go on to compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Ford Endeavour. It could be priced up to Rs 5 lakh higher than the regular version.
