BMW 5-Series-Rivalling Hyundai To Debut Next Month

Genesis Motor, Hyundai’s luxury vehicle division is reported to have planned to unveil the G8 luxury sedan at 2020 Geneva Motor Show, which will take place next month. The sedan is expected to be launched in the home country, South Korea, first and then in other countries later. The G8 has been spied testing several times. According to the spy images, the G80 will be totally different from the outgoing model which is currently on sale. The car will likely borrow many features from the GV80 SUV which has been recently unveiled. It will become a direct rival to the likes of BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. 

While coming from the house of Hyundai, the new model will take on the luxury chariots from some of the most revered carmakers on the planet.

In the front, the luxury sedan will feature a large crest-shaped grille, which is positioned between split headlights. The taillights come with a similar split design as the GV80, which divides them into two LED strips. The vehicle also has two exhaust tips.

The G80’s cabin is expected to bear a strong resemblance to that of the GV80 besides some alterations. Accordingly, a large amount of leather, wood and other upmarket materials are expected to be used inside the cabin. The GV80 features a wide horizontal touchscreen infotainment system on the top of the dashboard. A fully digital instrument cluster is also available inside the cabin. A separate screen in the centre helps control the HVAC. All of these features are anticipated to be equipped on the G80 as well.

The G80 is also likely to share the powertrains with the GV80 which is powered by a 25-litre 4-cyl turbo gasoline burner which can generate a maximum power of 300 HP and a 3.5-litre turbo V6 unit with more than 370 HP. An 8-speed AT unit will be available across all the variants of the G80. The G80 buyers can choose between an RWD and an AWD system.

The Hyundai Genesis G80 will borrow many features from the GV80.

The new Genesis G80 might also be launched in the USA this year. The current G80 is priced at $43,545, which is equal to INR 31.15 lakh in India. Once launched, the new G80 will directly compete against the Mercedes-Benz E Class, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, Infiniti Q70, Acura TLX and Lexus ES 350.
