In the India market, Mercedes GLS which has been the best-selling model at the segment of full-size luxury SUVs will be X7’s biggest rival. Other cars like Range Rover and Lexus LX will also make real challengers for the BMW’s SUV. On the global market, BMW X7 will also take on the likes of Cadillac Esccalade and Lincoln Navigator as well.

The X7 is going to be available in two configurations including the standard seven seater or the optional six-seater. The 326-litre luggage space is expanded to the significant capacity of 2,120 litres. Also, the X7 will sport air suspension as standard, which could allow to lowering the vehicle on demand. These features all highlight the flexibility of the X7, remarked by John Shipley, Producer Manager in North America.

The recent X7 is currently on sale with four engine options in the global market, but not all of them will make it to the India market. The all-wheel-drive system will be equipped across the range. Here is our speculation on what variants they might bring to our market.

  • M50d: This variant will be available at launch. It will be powered by a 3.0L diesel engine that could make 400 PS and 760 Nm. The engine is paired with 8-speed automatic transmission.

  • xDrive40i and xDrive30d might come late, possibly from September. The xDrive 40i is going to be powered by 3.0L petrol engine (340 PS/450 Nm), while the later will receive power from a 3.0L diesel engine (265 PS/620 Nm). Both will be coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission.

  • There is only one variant that will not be offered in India, which is the xDrive50i. This variant gets a 4.4-litre petrol engine under the hood.

BMW X7 launch date is February 31 and the India-spec version has been spied testing on India road. It will be priced around Rs 1.5 crore. At first, it is likely that X7 will be imported as CBU and after few months, it will be locally assembled.
