Brand New Maruti Swift Taken For A Spin, Angry Mob Thrashes Owner

Buying a car is a dream for many. For most, getting their dream set of wheels home is a joy that has no parallel. Of course, among the first things one plans after acquiring a new vehicle is taking his or her vehicle out for a long drive. This is exactly what TH Riyaz, a resident of Kasargod district in Kerala, had on his mind. Unfortunately, however, a nation-wise lockdown was imposed just a day after he got the delivery of his brand new Maruti Swift.

After waiting for several days, Riyaz couldn't hold his urge any longer and decided to go on a long drive in his new possession. Hence, last afternoon, he took his unregistered Maruti Swift on a joyride from his residence in Alambadi. Soon, he was intercepted by the police for violating the lockdown rules but he somehow managed to speed way and reach Maloor in Kannur district. 

By then, several residents had got to know of a man travelling to Maloor from Kasargod, which is the most badly hit district in Kerala by the pandemic. A mob blocked the car on a road in Maloor and forced Riyaz to get out of the vehicle. Next, he was tied up and given a thrashing by the angry locals. The residents even inflicted some damage to the Swift. Fortunately, the timely intervention by the local police prevented the situation from getting out of hands. Riyaz has been booked for violating lockdown laws and overspeeding.

This incident from Kannur is one of the biggest examples of many citizens not taking the ongoing crisis seriously. While PM Modi has time and again appealed to the country to stay indoor and maintain social distancing in order to curb the menace of the pandemic, there have been many cases of lockdown violations being reported from several pats of the country. Speaking of Kasargod, the district has so far been witness to the highest number of cases in the entire state of Kerala. It accounts for as many as 107 out of 234 cases of contamination in the state of Kerala.
