On one hand, various carmakers have been offering some fantastic discounts on BS5 cars and on other, even the BS6 Maruti Baleno is being sold with some lucrative offers

As we've reported on a few occasions since the start of this year, most carmakers have been offering some great discounts in order to clear the inventory of their BS4-compliant vehicles. That said, in a bid to sustain a strong sales momentum during the present period of uncertainty that lies ahead of the roll out of BS6 emission norms, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country's largest-selling carmaker, is offering discounts amounting to Rs 40,000 on the BS6 Maruti Baleno.

BS6 Maruti Baleno Available With Official Discount of Rs 40,000

Maruti Baleno, the top-selling B2-segment hatchback, got its mid-cycle update in January last year, while the BSVI-compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine options were introduced in April last year.

As we said, the discount offers that are being provided on the Maruti Baleno are on the BS6 stock. In fact, stocks of the BS4 model have already dried up at every dealership. The fresh stock, however, can be purchased with a discount of Rs 40,000. The offers comprise a cash discount of Rs 20,000, an exchange bonus of Rs 15,000 and a corporate discount of Rs 5,000. It's worth mentioning here that the exchange bonus remains unaffected regardless of the brand and the age of the old car that you sell off to the Maruti dealership. Also, with Rs 40,000 shaved off the base price, the effective cost of the entry-level Baleno ends up being just Rs 5.18 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The launch of the BS6 Maruti Baleno took place in April 2019, while it received a mid-cycle update in January last year. In its present state, the B2-segment hatchback is being sold only with 1.2-litre petrol engine options. Along with stopping the production of the 1.3-litre diesel engine, the company has also discontinued the production of the K10C-equipped Baleno RS. This has been done due to the low sales performance of the performance-oriented version. On the other hand, the regular Baleno is being sold with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and an optional DUALJET-equipped engine variant. While both the motors come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the former is also available with an optional CVT.

The 1.2-litre VVT-equipped petrol engine outputs a maximum power of 82.94PS and a peak torque of 113Nm. Like we said, transmission options include a 5-speed manual and CVT. The 1.2-litre DUALJET engine offers a maximum power of 89.74PS and a peak torque of 113Nm, and comes paired with a 5-speed manual unit. While the 1.2-litre VVT engine offers an ARAI-rated mileage of 21.01 kmpl with manual and 19.56 kmpl with CVT, the DUALJET motor offers 23.87 kmpl.
