The Jeep Compass has been spied testing with a more powerful BSVI 170 PS 1.4-litre petrol MultiAir motor.
Jeep Compass will soon receive a new petrol engine that will be BSVI-compliant. The new motor is upgraded from the current 1.4-litre MultiAir motor which conforms to BS-IV emission standards. The new engine is able to deliver a maximum power of 163 PS against 250 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed MT unit. The BSVI petrol engine variant is the entry-level Sport one which is equipped with an FWD system.
The BSVI more powerful petrol variant of the Jeep Compass has been spied testing recently.
This variant offers some features including quad halogen headlights, 16-inch steel rims, a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports Uconnect, height-adjustable driver’s seat and remote keyless entry. In the safety front, it is equipped with two front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill holder and traction control. Since the BS4-compliant Sport trim is only available with an FWD system and a 6-speed MT, the same case is expected to be adopted to the BS6 version.
The BSVI engine is expected to come to the entry-level variant of the Jeep Compass.
The international-spec Jeep Compass, consisting of the ones manufactured by the factory in India, receives the power from a 1.4-litre MultiAir 4-cyl gasoline burner which can generate 170 PS. The BSVI-compliant Jeep Compass is expected to be launched in the country by March 2020.
Jeep has also started testing the India-spec 7-seat SUV in real conditions. This vehicle has recently been spotted in Brazil. This SUV will borrow the Small-Wide platform from the Jeep Compass; however, the suspension, the opt-hat and the steering-gear of the two SUVs will be different. Moreover, the wheelbase of the new 7-seat SUV will also be longer to support the 7-seater layout. The upcoming SUV is slated for launch in India in the next two years, after the introduction of the Jeep Compass facelift.
The Jeep Compass is currently priced in the range from INR 14.99 lakh to INR 23.11 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) with totally five variants. In the October festive season, the American automaker offered generous discounts of up to INR 1.75 lakh on select trims of the Jeep Compass. Nevertheless, the top-spec Trailhawk was not available with any discounts. The Jeep Compass competes against the Tata Harrier, the Mahindra XUV500 and the Hyundai Creta.
