Kia will embark on a new journey in India market. Their first vehicle for this emerging market is an SUV. Codenamed Kia SP2i, Kia’s new SUV will be strongly influenced by the SP Concept which was displayed at 2018 Auto Expo last year. Recently, the near production model based on the SP concept was showcased in South Korea, giving us a rough idea of how the concept car will be transferred into reality.

Kia’s first SUV was seen recently on India road with camouflage, driving right beside another Brezza. On the spy shots, the Kia SP2i appears sporty with tiger nose front grille and DRL-integrated headlight. It is also noticed from the spy picture that the Kia SP2i will feature strong shoulder lines and extended window glass. Besides, this model is also seen with the contrasting roofline and alloy wheels.

The Kia SP2i for India market will be underpinned by new-gen Creta’s platform. Under the hood, the Kia SP2i SUV will be powered by petrol and diesel engine which are also brought from Hyundai Creta. This SUV will be manufactured in India at Anantapur-based plant.

The price of the first Kia model in India is expected to be around 10 lakh to 16 lakh. After entering the compact SUV segment, it will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks and first models from MG, MG Hector. The SUV will be launched in September or October 2019. Even though Kia is not decided on the name of the new SUV yet, two names are listed as potential nameplates, namely Kia Tusker or Kia Trailster.
