The Citroen C3 Sporty is expected to be launched in India in the latter half of 2021 to become the first locally-developed Groupe PSA offering in the country. The sub-4-metre SUV has been spied testing with heavy camouflage in Pune, Maharashtra.
Recently, a heavily camouflaged Citroen C3 Sporty was seen undergoing road tests on Indian roads. From the looks of it, the spied test mule is still an early development prototype. Nevertheless, the test mule reveals important details about the compact SUV. Codenamed C21, the upcoming C3 Sporty is going to come with a unique design which takes the inspiration source from big and modern Citroen SUVs and multiple motor options.
The Citroen C3 Sporty is likely to sport a split headlight unit with the main one located on the front bumper and LED DRLs. Other highlights in the front include a flat hood, a signature Citroen grille, a massive bumper, etc. The compact SUV will also be equipped with a coupe-like roofline, which has been available in Citroen C5 Aircross.
The new C3 Sporty will also feature rounded base and wide C pillars. The compact SUV will be underpinned by a simplified version of the Common Modular Platform, which also serves as the base for the Peugeot 208. The chassis will be customized to reduce the cost. The interior has not been revealed by the spy images; however, in order to efficiently compete in the fiercely competitive Indian compact SUV segment, the C3 Sporty is expected to be equipped with a wide array of top-notch features.
The Citroen C3 Sport is reported to receive its power from multiple motor options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated gasoline burner, a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor and a 1.5-litre diesel unit. The transmission duties will be undertaken by a standard 6-speed MT unit with an optional AT unit introduced later. In the Indian auto market, the compact SUV will compete against the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Kia Sonet.
