Citroen To Launch A Hyundai Venue Rival in India

IndianAuto had previously reported that Groupe PSA is planning to launch a sub-4-metre SUV in India. Now, it seems like we’ve found the vehicle that fits the bill perfectly. Dubbed the C3 Sporty, this subcompact SUV is expected to be Citroen’s entry into the hotly-contested sub-4-metre SUV segment in India.

According to L’ Auto Journal, a French automotive magazine, Citroen is developing the C3 Sporty on the company’s modular CMP platform. The car will feature a funky exterior design, which is expected to resonate well with the younger buyers. The image published by L’ Auto Journal showcases this outlandish design in all its glory. The front fascia is quite unique, and will have two LED strips functioning as DRLs that flow into the front grille. The headlamps will be positioned low, on the front bumper. The wheels are beautiful-looking, five-spoke units with a dual-tone diamond-cut finish.

The side profile of the C3 Sporty is relatively simple, but the design of the rear end is extremely crazy. We can clearly see that the taillights consist of two LED strips, probably mirroring the DRL design at the front end. Sadly, the image only showcases the front three-quarters of the car. Although this image seems like a concept design, the final product might have similar design elements. Thus, the design of the production-spec car should be as impressive as this one.

Recent reports suggest that the Citroen C3 Sporty will be powered by the same 1.2-litre, inline-3, turbocharged, ‘Puretech’ petrol engine as the Peugeot 308. This motor is capable of generating 130 PS and 230 Nm, and will come paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. A 6-speed automatic transmission might also be offered as an option. Reports also suggest that there will be an electric version (which seems to be the one shown in the picture at the top) as well. It will use a 50 kWh battery pack and offer a driving range of 330 km approximately. The maximum power and torque figures are estimated to be 135 PS and 260 Nm, respectively.
