In March, Maruti Vitara Brezza continued to dominate the sales chart in compact SUV segment with 14,181 units. It is followed by Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford Ecosport.

The sub-four-meter compact SUVs segment is becoming more and more popular in India. The increasing demand in this particular space has fueled the manufacturers to improve and update their models, creating a competitive and favourable environment to grow. Here we will examine how this segment is doing in the recent month.

On top of the chart, it is the long-reigning Maruti Vitara Brezza. Before its launch, the Ford Ecosport is the most welcomed model who set the trend for sub-4-meter compact SUVs. It has been dominated the space ever since with more than 12,000 units sold each month on average. Last month, the Brezza registered the total sales of 14,181 units. Compared with the same month last year, it has signed up the YoY growth of 8 per cent.

Following the Brezza is the Tata Nexon. With 5,616 units sold in March, the Nexon successfully retains its second place for another month. Tata’s compact SUV has gained the YoY growth of 27 per cent. The surge in sales is partly for the full-start rating at NCAP crash test.

While the first and the second slots belong to the same old models for a long time, the following ranks have seen changes in recent months. Ford Ecosport has been knocked out of the third place which is now owned by a new name, Mahindra XUV300. Mahindra XUV300 was launched in February. It soon beats the ageing Ecosport to be the third best-selling sub-4-meter compact SUV thanks to its fully-loaded features list and solid quality. Last month, Mahindra retailed 4,542 units of the XUV300. The entrance of the XUV300 has probably contributed to the sales growth of the whole segment.
