The soon-to-be-launched law will require all vehicles plying in Delhi to bear color-coded sticker which will indicate its fuel type.

The government has come up with a new idea for the vehicles commuting in Delhi. According to the new rule, each car will bear a sticker whose color will indicate its fuel type. It will help the law enforcement to recognize if a vehicle is diesel-run or petrol-run.

After the amicus curiae suggested to use color stickers to differentiate between fuel types, for example, diesel, petrol, or to indicate if the vehicle is electric, hybrid or BS-VI or BS-V compliant.

There is also the chance that a year-of-production sign will be put on the windshield as well. Knowing the year of production will help the police to easily identify which car is not allowed to run on Delhi streets.

The color-coded sticker will allow the law enforcement to identify vehicle's car type

These signs shown on the vehicles' bodies will provide useful information for the law enforcement. According to the law, for diesel vehicles, after ten years of running, it is not allowed to transport on Delhi streets anymore. And petrol vehicles are allowed to drive for less than fifteen years. It is because, after these time in use, the registration renewal is no longer available.

The ban is an important part of the environment-protecting attempt to downsize the highly-polluting vehicles.

Before the color-coded idea, it is nearly impossible to identify what car is allowed to run without seeing the registration paper. By applying the new rule, it will be easier for them to track down what vehicle is violating the law.

The same attempt has been done in Paris. In order to hamper the air pollution, the Paris government has made it compulsory for cars to bear color-coded stickers.

Hopefully, color-coded stickers indicating fuel types will be an effective approach to ease air pollution in Delhi.
