Despite being almost unchanged in terms of the exterior, the next-Gen Porsche 911 will experience major tweaks as regards the interior to become larger, smarter and more powerful.

The next-gen Porsche 911 has been disclosed at the 2018 LA Auto Show where it will also be officially debuted in the metal version later. While its exterior appears to look almost unchanged, actually, many of the elements will witness major alterations.

1. 2019 Porsche 911 Exterior

If you do not carefully examine the exterior of the Porsche 911, you might be easily fooled into thinking that it has not been changed at all. However, in fact, some small details have been changed to give it a more muscular look. Specifically, it is a little bit bigger now with a 45mm larger front. The wheelbase will be slightly longer, ensuring a comfortable travelling experience for the passengers.

In the front, the redesigned bumper with more outstanding splitter components adds to the masculine appearance of the vehicle. The rounder headlights are now placed between the larger front wings.

On the side profile, the car still features frameless doors with the wider and slightly refreshed exterior mirrors. The door handles are now parallel positioned with the body with closed doors to increase the aerodynamic efficiency. The standard sizes of the wheels have been revealed yet but it is expected that the new 911 will sit on the same wheels as the outgoing model, 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels.

2. 2019 Porsche 911 Interior

Unlike the exterior, the cabin of the new Porsche 911 has come with considerable differences from the previous model. A manual tachometer is placed in the centre of the instrument cluster and digital displays on the two sides. The central console now lacks many buttons since a large 10.9-inch central touchscreen screen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system has now been available. The gear stick has also changed and now look like an elongated toggle more than a gear selector.

Talking about the driving modes, a novel “Wet” mode which can recognize water in the roads has been introduced by Porsche as standard across all variants. Thanks to this “Wet” mode, the control systems can be readjusted accordingly and the driver can also get the warning in case of an emergency.

A wide range of smart technologies are offered on the new-gen 911 Coupe, including

  • Night vision assistant with TIC (thermal imaging camera)

  • Adaptive cruise control

  • Stop/Start button

  • Automatic emergency assist

The aforementioned techs are the optional features above the standard safety ones consisting of the emergency brake assist and the warning which can detect the collision risks and start emergency braking whenever necessary.

Having said that, the most remarkable changes have been recorded in the engine of the new 911 Coupe. Two variants of Porsche 911: the Carrera S and the Carrera 4S have been disclosed by Porsche. They are now packed with the brand-new 3.0L flat six-cylinder petrol motor, which is good for producing a max power of 450hp (increasing by 30hp) and a peak torque of 530Nm. A novel 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox is expected to undertake the transmission duties on the new sports coupe in addition to the new 7-speed MT unit.

The new engine and gearbox can help the vehicle to reduce the time to accelerate from a standstill to 100kph by 0.4 seconds. To be more specific, the figure for Carrera S and the Carrera 4S is now 3.7s and 3.6s, respectively. Moreover, the extra Sport Chrono Package with an updated gearbox software and launch control which offers a sports response function and quicker gearshifts, even allows the car to achieve a reduced 0-100kph time by 0.2s. Nevertheless, the maximum speeds of both cars remain unchanged with 307kph for the Carrera S and 305kph for Carrera 4S.
