Indian Railways has started shipping the Kia Seltos from the Anantpur-based factory to various cities across the country. Read the complete report here.
Kia Seltos enjoys a high demand in the Indian automotive market. It is currently manufactured at the South-Korean carmaker’s Anantpur-based facility in Andhra Pradesh. It is the only manufacturing facility that Kia has in the country from where the Seltos is supplied across the nation. Therefore, a high cost is involved in transporting Kia cars to various Kia dealerships in the country. To reduce the overall cost and the carbon footprint associated with the transportation of cars, Indian railways is working in tandem with the carmakers to transport cars via freight trains to different cities. On a similar note, Central Railway division of Indian Railways will now be transporting Kia Seltos to different cities across the country.
Recently, the first shipment of 100 Kia Seltos was delivered from Penukonda, Andhra Pradesh to Farukhnagar in Haryana. Along with this rake, Indian Railways has shipped 5 more consignments of an undefined quantity of Kia Seltos across the country. This has been done under the Indian Railways’ target of achieving net-zero emission for mass transportation of cars by 2030. Earlier, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra have also opted for this approach. This way, Indian Railways delivers the cars to the nearest freight hub to a stockyard, from where the cars can either be driven or shipped via car transporter to the dealership.
Talking of the Seltos, it rivals the likes of Hyundai Venue, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and more. Kia offers the Seltos with 3 engine options – 1.5L petrol, 1.5L diesel, and 1.4L turbo-petrol. The transmission options include a 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT, CVT, and 7-speed DCT. It is offered in a total of 7 variants, namely HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX, and GTX+. The Seltos comes packed with a slew of features on board, which include 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bose sound system, mood lighting, electronically adjustable driver seat, rear seat sun blinds, 360-degree camera with front parking sensors, cruise control, ventilated front seats and more. The prices of the Seltos start at Rs. 9.89 lakh and top out at Rs. 17.54 lakh.
