First Unit of 2020 Mahindra Thar Delivered to Owner

Recently, the delivery for the 2020 Mahindra Thar has started in the Indian auto market with the first unit presented to the online auction winner. Read on for more details.

The first unit of the new Mahindra Thar has been presented to the winner of the online auction, Aakash Minda, by Senior Vice President of Sales and Customer Care Department, Mahindra in New Delhi, Satinder Bajwa. The vehicle was the top-spec LX petrol AT convertible variant with a Mystic Copper paint scheme. The car comes with a Thar #1 badge, modified badging of the owner’s initials and No ‘1’ on the dashboard and the leather upholsteries.

The first unit of the new-gen Mahindra Thar was put up for auction for a noble cause. Eventually, the vehicle was sold at a price of INR 1.22 crore to Aakash Minda. The online Mahindra Thar auction got more than 5,400 registration entries from about 550 locations in India. The starting price for the biding is INR 25 lakh. The winner would have to choose one of the three NGOs: the PM Cares fund, Naandi Foundation and Swades Foundation with the last one being chosen to receive the funds from the winner.

The home-grown automaker has offered the new Thar with a wide range of top-notch features. These include halogen headlights with LED DRLs, steering-mounted controls, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, powered air conditioner, autocruise, a digital MID in the instrument cluster. The new Mahindra Thar is offered with two seating layouts: 4-seater and 6-seater, depending on the variants.

The off-road SUV receives its power from a new 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor and a 2.2-litre diesel motor. While the former can generate 150 PS against 300 Nm for the manual version and 1500 PS against 300 Nm for the automatic version, the latter is goof for 130 PS against 300 Nm. The transmission duties on both of the two versions are undertaken by a 6-speed MT/AT. The new Thar is priced from INR 9.8 lakh to INR 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom) and directly competes against the Force Ghurkha in the Indian auto market.
