First Unit of New Mahindra Thar Under Auction, Bid Reaches Rs 81 Lakh

The first unit of 2020 Mahindra Thar is announced to be auctioned for charity, and the highest bid as of now is Rs. 81 lakh.

Mahindra Thar has been recently unveiled in its second-gen avatar and has managed to create quite a buzz for itself. It will officially go on sale in the country from October 2. Mahindra has started accepting the bookings for the new-gen Thar, and it will be available in a total of three trim options – AX, AX Option, and LX. The carmaker has also announced that it will be auctioning the first unit of the second-gen Thar for charity. The auction began on September 24, and the biddings will stay open till September 29. However, as of now, the highest bid reported is of Rs. 81 lakh and is expected to reach Rs. 1 Crore mark by the end of the auction.

The owner of the very first unit of the 2020 Mahindra Thar will get the option to choose for the charitable organization that he/she wants the money to be paid. The list includes Naandi Foundation, Swades Foundation, and PM Cares Fund. The second-gen Mahindra Thar gets a decoration plate mounted on the dashboard, which will also have the serial no. as 1. Furthermore, there would be a lot of places on the car that will have the ‘#1’ badges and decals. Also, the car owner’s name will be featured on the badges at various places on the car. The winner of this auction will have the leverage to choose one of the six colour options in any variant with any engine-gearbox option.

There are two engine options available with the 2020 Mahindra Thar – 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.2L diesel. The 2.0L petrol is a 4-cylinder turbocharged unit and can push out a rated power output of 150 PS and max torque of 320 Nm. The 2.2L diesel too boasts of a 4-cylinder layout with a turbocharger and can develop a max power and torque output of 130 PS and 300 Nm, respectively. The gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic. However, irrespective of the engine-gearbox configuration you settle down with, the new-gen Thar comes with a four-wheel-drive layout with a low-range transfer case and locking rear-diff as standard fitment across the range.
