First launched in 2013, Ford EcoSport has finally completed 7 years in India. While it's no longer as popular as models like the Maruti Vitara Brezza, it can be easily crediting with making the sub-compact SUV segment popular

The sub-compact SUV space has become the most popular and crowded segments in the Indian automobile market. This segment was kick-started by none other than the Ford EcoSport, which was launched back in 2013. It was first showcased in our market back in 2012 Auto Expo. Before the launch of EcoSport, Ford was already heading towards success because the sales of the Figo were skyrocketing. At that time, Ford Figo was the most fun to drive car in its segment. The American automaker introduced the EcoSport in India when it was in its second generation. Ford EcoSport has an impressive ride height, SUV-ish stance and potent petrol and diesel powertrain options that promised to counter any kind of terrain.

Even today, the Ford SUV is the only car in its segment, which does the SUV thing the best. Moreover, it seems the most SUV-ish because of the spare wheel mounted on its rear tailgate. The carmaker invested around $142 million in their Chennai facility for the manufacturing of the EcoSport and that allows them to price the compact SUV extremely aggressively. In 2013, the Ford EcoSport was launched at a starting price tag of Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base trim and goes all the way up to Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec variant. Earlier, Ford also launched the SUV with a 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine at Rs 7.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it attracted a lot of enthusiasts.
