Ford Motors will soon introduce a 2.3-litre petrol engine for Endeavour (aka Everest) in the international markets. The new gasoline engine will replace the ongoing 2.0-litre EcoBosst unit

The current-gen Ford Endeavour is doing quite well in terms of global sales. It may be noted here that in the international markets, the SUV is being retailed as the ‘Everest’. Recently, the carmaker introduced an updated model of the SUV in India. The 2020 Ford Endeavour now derives power from a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel mill. The engine comes mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The updated model was introduced back in January this year and is retailed at a starting price of Rs 29.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new BS6 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel unit replaces both the BS4 powertrain options offered earlier. Previously, the SUV was offered with a 3.2-litre five-cylinder and 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel motor options.

The India-spec Ford Enfeavour is only offered with a petrol engine

Many of you may know that diesel engines are not that popular in the foreign markets. However, Ford Everest is among those few cars which are getting retailed with an oil burner along with a 2.0-litre petrol mill. Recent reports suggest that Ford will soon replace this gasoline-burner with a new 2.3-litre petrol engine in the coming weeks.

Currently, the SUV derives power from a 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo-petrol unit that produces 244bhp of power and 360 Nm of peak torque. It comes paired with a 6-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox. The upcoming 2.3-litre EcoBoost unit puts out power and torque outputs of 271bhp and 455 Nm, respectively. Transmission duties will be done by a 10-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox.

The automaker has no plans to introduce the new 2.3-litre petrol mill for the India-spec Endeavour

The India-spec Ford Endeavour is only offered with a diesel mill, and we don’t expect the carmaker to offer the new 2.3-litre petrol engine with the SUV in our market. In India, the demand for a petrol engine in the large SUV segment is quite less. The ongoing Ford Endeavour competes with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Isuzu MU-X.
