Two of the world’s leading automotive companies, Ford and Mahindra Group has recently signed in the agreement on engine sharing and connected vehicle solutions, marking the milestone in their collaboration relationship.

In September 2017, the Ford and Mahindra first announced their definitive agreements on powertrain sharing and continued with five Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in March 2018. The powertrain sharing agreement enables Mahindra Group to develop and provide a low displacement petrol engine for Ford India, kicking off in 2020. It will totally comply with the BSVI emission norms that could help Ford to expand and reinforce their gasoline motor portfolio including the all-new TiVCT V6 engine.  Apparently, this action will turn over a new leaf in the two large auto manufacturers for the sake of sustainably developing and creating opportunities together.

The BSVI norms (India Bharat Stage VI Emission Standards) are the emission control standards which are issued by the Indian Government based on the European emission standards aimed to regulate the release of air pollutants from internal combustion engine equipment including motor vehicles. In addition, the two celebrated automotive companies agreed to jointly develop a suite of connected vehicle solutions, which will be deployed in both Mahindra and Ford models.

Commenting on this agreement. Dr Pawan Goenka, Managing Director of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd said,

"Today’s announcement further builds on commitments made so far, leading to a fruition of exciting new opportunities. We are confident to meet customer expectations by working together on a number of joint development areas. Going forward we will continue to identify the synergies that exist between the two companies.”

Jim Farley, Ford Executive Vice President and President of Global Markets noted:

“We are pleased with the progress our teams have made since we announced our strategic alliance with Mahindra Group a year ago. Today we go further in delivering even greater value. With our collaboration in powertrain and connected car solutions, we will deliver an affordable portfolio and enable our Indian customers to get behind the wheel, feeling more confident and connected.”

The goal of this alliance is to ride together in the competition, focus on raising the benefits of Ford on the global reach and expertise and the scale of Mahindra in India.
