BMW India is bound to launch the next-gen BMW X5 on May 16, 2019. The new SUV will be available in two trims along with two engine options.

2019 is being foreseen as a busy, event-filled year for BMW India with as many as 12 model launches aimed to dominate the luxury car segment of the world’s fourth-largest auto market. Among them, the fourth-generation BMW X5 is also on the cards to come to us on this May 16, following the footstep of the BMW Z4 that has entered the Indian space recently.

As in our earlier report, the BMW X5 will be available in two trims- the xDrive30d which features a 3.0-litre diesel engine option good enough for 265 hp/ 620 Nm, and the xDrive40i using a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor tuned for 340 hp per 500 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties will be taken over by an 8-speed automatic transmission along with BMW’s xDrive AWD system as standard. In essence, it is reported that the X5 diesel will be the first comer in its lineup while the petrol counterpart will make its path to the country at a little later.

In a bid to redefine the company’s iconic radical styling design, the German-based automotive brand is all set to introduce the X5 with a premium rugged silhouette carrying the prominent symbolic kidney grille that can be found in any other BMW offerings. However, it will be further updated with a distinctive front and rear bumpers, sophisticated side skirts alongside the lavish alloy wheels design among others. One thing is for sure, the India-spec X5 will be available with two variants, namely the Luxury line and Sport line while the performance-spec M Sport trim will make its way to the petrol variant only.

In the present-day tough competition in India, BMW will try best to keep the prices of the X5 competitively. That said, the ex-showroom price for the X5 diesel is more likely to start from Rs 78 Lakh. The main rival of the 2019 BMW X5 is the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350d which is currently positioned at around Rs 77.8 Lakh (ex-showroom, India).
