Before its global debut in April or May 2020, the front-end of the Volkswagen Nivus (Polo-based SUV) has been unveiled in a new teaser image for the first time.

The German automaker has teased the VW Nivus earlier in December and now, more of the car has been revealed. Earlier being called the T-Sport, the Nivus looks like a compact crossover coupe. Once launched in India, it will be positioned below the T-Cross. Recently, the front of the vehicle has been shown, which is part of Volkswagen AG’s Annual Media Conference.

According to the new teaser image, the Nivus borrows some design traits from the T-Cross. The crossover sports a horizontal chrome bar which extends through the air intake to the brand logo. It also comes with integrated LED headlights and huge fog lights’ enclosure. The side profile of the Nivus resembles that of the Polo with muscular wheel arches, alloy rims, a bold beltline and Polo-inspired door handles. The crossover also has high ground clearance. The functional roof rails and the sloping coupe-like roofline, which are typical of a crossover, are also present in the image. Earlier, a video which unveils the interior of the Nivus has also been released. Some of the outstanding interior features include a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, start/stop unit, electric trunk opener and park assist, etc.

The VW Nivius will be underpinned by the MQB A0 platform which has been specifically developed by the company for the developing car markets. The crossover will be launched in Brazil first and then European countries later. In the Indian auto market where the MQB A0 IN chassis is available, a wide range of vehicles based on this platform can be expected to be launched in the country by 2020.

These include the Tiguan AllSpace, the T-Roc and the T-Cross-based compact SUV and the Nivus can not be ruled out as well. The crossover is likely to borrow the 1.0-litre 3-cyl petrol motor from the Polo with a maximum power of 116 HP and 126 HP in the manual and automatic versions, respectively.
