Take a look at this extensively modified Mahindra XUV500. The car has been customised to look and perform better, especially in off-road conditions.

Even though there is a huge demand for it, there aren’t many purpose-built off-road vehicles in India. The need for practicality usually trumps the urge for fun. As such, we get relatively boring SUVs instead. Of course, we have the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha Extreme, but those cars are highly impractical; you won’t be able to drive your family around in comfort. The ones that aren’t impractical are extremely expensive, like Toyota Landcruiser and the Land Rovers and Range Rovers. Thankfully, you don’t have to always buy the car you love, you can simply build it! Take a look at this off-road spec Mahindra XUV500 as a prime example of that.

The Mahindra XUV500 in the picture above has been modified by ‘Q Factory Custmz’, a Kerela based custom car shop. The car has been named ‘M Hawk’, which is also the name of the Mahindra’s current crop of diesel engines (mHawk). The SUV sports some major exterior changes compared to the regular XUV500. Here, we shall list all those changes in detail.

At the front, we see a redesigned front grille and a new front bumper. The car also sports a custom hood cover with (fake?) air vents. To add to the car’s off-roading prowess, There is a snorkel for the air intake, and an electric winch attached to the front bumper, both of which will be extremely useful if you get stuck in the mud while wading through water!

At the side, you’ll notice the big, 17-inch wheels, with 265/65 knobby tyres. The tyres are, in fact, too large for the car, and extend outwards from the wheel arches! The ORVMs and door handles are carbon fibre dipped and look fabulous. The rear bumper is also new and features dual-exhaust tips. The taillights are also custom.

The entire SUV has been raised by 2.5 inches via a suspension lift kit, to add some precious ground clearance. There is a roof-mounted closed-carrier for your additional luggage carrying requirements, along with two pairs of roof-mounted auxiliary lights for better illumination. The entire car has been custom painted in gunmetal grey, which not only looks cool, but is also not a dirt magnet. The car also features a modified interior.

The engine of this modified Mahindra XUV500 remains untouched. The 2.2-litre 'mHawk’ diesel engine can generate 155 PS and 360 Nm of maximum power and peak torque, respectively. It comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a 6-speed automatic as optional. Sadly, the XUV500 is only available with a front-wheel-drive system, much to the dismay of AWD fans.
