Here's How Kia Seltos Compares with Hyundai Creta

The second-gen Hyundai Creta has been finally launched to build on the success story that the original model wrote for itself when it was first launched in the country. It is worth mentioning here that the first-gen Creta started losing out as soon as Kia commenced its local innings with the Seltos. The new Creta, however, sits on the same platform as the Seltos and gets the same set of powertrain options. It also gets some extra features. So, let’s check how these mechanical twins fare against each other and which one is the better of the two.

Starting with the looks of these cars, the Seltos looks the matured one here with straight lines, clam-shell bonnet, fancy DRLs, and a timeless design overall. The Creta is designed with fillets all around. It does look like a car from space-age and thus, faces polarizing opinions from the market. It uses split headlamps and tail lamps set up with a big-wide cascading grille at the front and a LED bar at the rear that connects the tail lamps. Both cars look distinctive as they carry different personality altogether.

Underpinned by the same platform, the Creta is the smaller car here. It measures at 4,300 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height. The Seltos, however, is longer by 15 mm and wider and taller by just 10 mm. With the use of curves all around in place of straight lines, it is the Creta that feels bigger in flesh. Both of these SUVs have a wheelbase of 2,610 mm and a boot capacity of 433 litres.

The Seltos and Creta are offered with 3 engine options – 1.5L N/A petrol, 1.5L turbo-diesel, 1.4L turbo-petrol. The 1.5L N/A petrol belts out 115 PS/144 Nm, the 1.5L turbo-diesel has a peak output of 115 PS/250 Nm, and the 1.4L turbo-petrol whips out 140 PS/242 Nm. The 1.5L petrol on both of these cars is offered with either a 6-speed MT or a CVT, while the 1.5L diesel engine can be had with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. The smaller 1.4L turbo petrol is offered with 2 gearbox options on the Seltos – 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCT, however, on the Creta it is only offered with the 7-speed DCT.

Talking about the features, both of these cars come loaded to the gills. They feature ventilated front seats, a 10.24-inch infotainment display, 7.0-inch TFT for MID, power-adjustable seats, paddle shifters, Bose sound system, TPMS, wireless phone charger, drive modes, traction control modes, rear seat curtains, ambient lighting, and more. If differences are to be considered, the Seltos gets a Head-up display and a 360-degree camera, which are not present on the Creta. Creta, however, gets a full-size panoramic sunroof, cooled glovebox, and pillow-type rear seat headrests.

The Creta is offered in a total of 5 variants and 5 engine-gearbox combinations, while the Seltos is offered in a total of 8 variants and 6 engine-gearbox configurations. The latter also holds a lower starting price of Rs. 9.89 lakh, while the newer Creta starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh.
