The fifth-generation Honda City was all set to debut in the country last month. However, due to the nationwide lockdown, the event was called off. Soon after the new City made its global debut, it was followed by the leaked patent images of its hatchback version. The patent images were in a greyscale theme as is the case wit CAD drawings of models. However, based on the leaked images, our in-house digital expert Shoeb R. Kalania has come up with coloured illustrations to give you a fair idea of whaat the hatchback could look like.

Renderings of the 2020 Honda City hatchback based on the patent leaks of the car.

Basically, the hatchback will be a 5-door version of the Honda City sedan. It will look exactly the same as the sedan until the B-pillar. Beyond the B-pillar, the changes are evident. The roof does not slope down, thus giving it a typical 2-box silhouette. Also, the rear-facet features a lot of cuts and creases, thanks to a rather sporty looking boot lid and bumper. The tail lamps are different as well but feature similar LED element as the sedan.

Inside, it is expected to come equipped with the same dashboard as the City saloon. However, the interior on the hatchback is expected to come finished in a different colour tone than the sedan. Honda is likely to offer the car with 2-engine options. There would be a 1.0L VTEC turbo-petrol motor on offer alongside the 1.5L i-VTEC naturally-aspirated option. These engines are also seen on the Thai-spec City sedan. The former of the two motors is expected to come mated with a CVT, while the latter will offer the option to choose between a 5-speed MT and a CVT.

Here’s How 2020 Honda City Hatchback Would Look Like?

2020 Honda City hatchback will not make its way to the Indian market.

The City hatchback will get a different name when it will be unveiled to the masses. It will compete against the likes of Hyundai i30 hatchback in many global markets. Unlike the Jazz, it is not expected to make its way to India. Honda will probably target the ASEAN and Latin American markets with the City hatchback. For the Indian market, the carmaker is working on giving the outgoing Jazz a mid-cycle refresh alongside the BS-6 update.
