Honda Amaze Sales Rocket In FY 2019, Doubling The Honda City

Honda Amaze recorded a great year-over-year sales growth of 293% in FY 2019 with over 85,000 units being sold.

Honda Cars India is ranked in the fifth position over Toyota and Ford in FY 2019 with a total sales number of 1,83,808 units, which translates into a YoY increase of 8%. Adopting a different strategy from other automakers, Honda focuses on a strong sedan lineup which plays an important role in the expansion of Honda’s market share in India.

The most common vehicle of the Japanese carmaker is definitely the Honda City, but in the fiscal year 2019, another nameplate has come into the spotlight, the Honda Amaze. Let’s make a comparison. In the financial year of 2017 - 2018, the sales number of the City was up to 56,162 units while that of the Amaze was only 21,668 units. But in the period from April 2018 to March 2019, the Amaze has recorded a total sales number of 85,061 units, almost 44,000 more than the Honda City and recorded a YoY sales increase of up to 293%.

Launched in May 2018, the second-gen Honda Amaze comes with thorough updates from inside out. Underpinned by a brand-new platform, the Amaze has got rid of its outdated styling; now, instead, it features a modern design with a more upright front fascia and an outstanding chrome grille.

The cabin is now of higher quality, thanks to the additional comfort and safety features. Whereas there is no alteration to the motor options, a new CVT gearbox mated to the diesel motor has been added to the transmission options.

As regards another flagship sedan by the Japanese automaker, the Honda Civic, after nearly seven years with no remarkable activities, has made a return in March 2019. The vehicle has taken the whole sedan segment aback with a total sales of 2,291 from its launch date. Moreover, Honda is expected to introduce the new-gen City by 2020 to the Indian auto market with a view to further increasing its sales. Also realizing the rapid development of the SUV segment in India, the brand also intends to more deeply penetrate into this segment with a premium SUV which will be launched in the foreseeable future.
