Also, the Japanese carmaker has launched the facelifted Jazz in the Indian market, which is a hatchback based on the older Honda City. Honda has unveiled the new-gen Jazz already, but that seems to be Japan- and Europe-specific car since a hatchback version of the 5th-gen City is under development too. The test mules of 2020 Honda City hatchback have been spotted at various times in the South-Asian countries, giving a clear picture of its silhouette.

In the South-Asian markets like Thailand and Malaysia, Honda City is a much-loved product. And thus, ASEAN countries will be the first market where the Honda City hatchback will go on sale. Learning from the rumours that are going around, the City hatchback is expected to make its debut by the end of this year. In Thailand, the new-gen City gets the 1.0L 3-pot turbocharged petrol motor, unlike the India-spec model. This engine is capable of putting out a peak power output of 122 horsepower at 5,500 RPM and a peak torque of 179 Nm in between 2,000-4,500 RPM. This motor is expected to do the duties in the same configuration on the City hatchback as well.

Talking of the styling, not much is known about this aspect of the car since it has been caught wrapped under heavy camo every time. However, the silhouette suggests that it will look identical to the 5th-gen City up to B-pillars. After which, it will possess a few changes to adapt to the hatchback body style. It will be getting an upright tailgate in place of an elongated boot as seen on the sedan. That being said, the City hatchback will sport identical wheelbase as the sedan to offer plenty of room on the inside. However, it is highly unlikely that Honda will launch it in the Indian market.
