Honda City currently holds the highest share of the executive sedan segment. Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz are the models in the second and third positions, respectively.

In July, Honda Cars India launched three new models in the Indian market. These new vehicles include the WR-V, Civic Diesel and new-gen Honda City. Honda City is considered the most important launch of this year for the Japanese car manufacturer. It was scheduled to enter the market in April. However, due to the outbreak, the debut of new-gen City was delayed until July. Fortunately, the new-gen Honda City has gained positive responses. The new-gen Honda City has helped the total sales of Honda to grow 8.25 per cent in October. Last month, Honda has sold a total number of 10,836 units.

Honda City has contributed to the total sales figure with 4,125 units sold last month, registered a growth of 119 per cent against 1,887 units in the same month last year. It is also the highest monthly sales of the Honda City in 21 months. It should be noted that the company is offering both pre-updated and new-gen Honda City. With this sales figure, Honda City has stepped ahead of the rest and become the segment-leading vehicle last month. It commands a 44 per cent share of the total sales in the premium sedan segment.

Contributing to 23.19 per cent of the total sales in the segment, Hyundai Verna is the second-highest selling sedan with 2,166 units sold in October. Compared to the same month in 2019, the sedan has recorded the negative growth of 0.37 per cent. It should be noted that Hyundai also introduced the facelifted Verna earlier this year. However, the upgrade does not show considerable effect in sales performance.

Coming on the third position is the Maruti Ciaz with 1,422 units sold in October. In the same month last year, Maruti retailed 2,371 units of the Ciaz. The premium sedan from Maruti registered a huge year-on-year sales drop of 40 per cent.
