Honda City Tops Sales Chart as Best-selling C-Segment Sedan in January 2021

Honda City regained the number 1 position in the C-segment sedan space last month with a YoY growth of 112 per cent for the month of January.

Honda City is a key product of the Japanese car manufacturer in the Indian market. Even though the sedan segment does not retain the same level of popularity as before, it manages to attract a number of loyal followers. With the launch of the fifth-gen model, Honda City is regaining its hype and has bagged the number one position in the C-segment sedan space on the sales tally in January this year.

New-gen Honda City is now the most popular vehicle in the segment 

The fifth-gen Honda City was launched with various updates for the exterior and interior. In the first month of 2021, Honda sold a total of 3,667 units of the City in India, making it the best-selling model in its segment. Compared to the sales of the same month last year, Honda City has gained a year-on-year growth of 112 per cent. In January 2020, Honda City registered a total sales of 1,734 units. Back then, it was still on sale under the fourth-gen form.

The major reason contributing to the success of the Honda City is its updated and well-equipped feature list. Besides the premium design, the interior of the new-gen City also offers some outstanding upmarket features including an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Alexa compatibility, 7.0-inch MID, a G-force meter, LaneWatch camera, Honda Connect telematics system with 32 connectivity features, a cruise control, paddle shifters (CVT only), and electric sunroof, ambient lighting and more.

The new-gen Honda City is powered by either a 1.5-litre DOHC four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 1.5L four-cylinder diesel engine. The petrol engine is capable of making 121 BHP and 145 Nm while the diesel engine can generate 100 BHP and 200 Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard in both diesel and petrol engine. However, only the petrol engine gets an additional CVT gearbox.

Honda City is rivalling against the likes of Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and Toyota Yaris. The fifth-gen Honda City is available on sales alongside the fourth-gen model. At the moment, Honda City is priced from Rs 10.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.84 lakh.
