Honda Cars India confirms that like the Civic, the HR-V will enter the market via CKD route. It will launch by the year-end and will likely cost Rs 14-18 lakh (ex-showroom)

Honda Cars India Ltd (HICL) has revealed its plan to bring in more SUVs for the Indian market, including the HR-V, which has been on sale globally for quite some time now. Only a few days ago, the brand new Honda HR-V was spied undergoing its road trials on the Indian roads for the very first time. Now, the upcoming SUV has been spotted on test again in the capital, during its preparation for the domestic launch.

The all-new Honda HR-V has been spotted on its test mule recently, showing off some exterior design of the new model.

Billed as the company’s next big launch for India, the Honda HR-V will come to fill the gap between the WR-V and CR-V in Honda’s product range. Recently, the new HR-V was once again spotted testing with heavy camouflage in India. Not much of the exterior, or even the wheels, are visible owing to the heavy concealments, but we expect the overall silhouette of the India-spec HR-V to largely resemble that of the global version. The spy shots reveal the side and rear end of the car only but still, we can make out a fair amount of cosmetic bits of the new SUV. A sloping roofline, a rising window line and a raked rear windshield are some details that are quite apparent.

The Honda HR-V will make its entry into the domestic market in late 2019.

In all likelihood, the Honda HR-V will be kitted out with features like full LED headlamps, LED taillamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation supports, 8-way electrical driver seat as well as leather-wrapped upholstery.

In terms of specifications, the Honda HR-V is most likely to offer the same engine-transmission packages as the current-gen Honda Civic. This means that the new model might come with a 1.8-litre VTEC gasoline engine making 141 PS of max power and 174 Nm of peak torque along with a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel burner that is good for 120 PS and 300 Nm. Given the introduction of the stricter emission norms, it remains to be seen if Honda would introduce a BSVI compliant diesel engine option on the new vehicle. Prices of the Honda HR-V are expected to stand somewhere between Rs 14-18 Lakh (ex-showroom, India).
