Honda has discontinued the Honda Civic and Honda CR-V in our market. Moreover, the production at its Greater-Noida-based facility is also stopped.

Honda is one of the most-reputed car manufacturers in the Indian market. The Japanese car manufacturer retains a stable sales number thanks to its hot-selling models like Honda City and Honda Amaze. Most of the vehicles on Honda’s existing range are on the premium side. Nevertheless, in the near future, it is reported that Honda will shift its focus to the budget car segment. In addition, Honda has also put an end to the Honda Civic and CR-V in the Indian market.

The decision was made after the Japanese car brand decided to shut down the manufacturing activity at its Greater-Noida-based facility. Both of these premium cars were imported as Completed Knocked Down units and assembled at this plant. While the Honda Civic and CR-V is discontinued, the production of the best-selling Honda City is moved to Tapukara-based plant.

The Tapukara manufacturing facility is used for producing smaller size vehicles like Honda Amaze, Honda Jazz and WR-V. It also explains why Honda stops making Honda Civic and CR-V after the Greater Noida plant was shut down.

As per the press announcement, Honda Cars India confirmed that the production at Greater Noida plant will be closed. However, it should be noted that the other operations of the Head Office, Research and Development department and Spare Parts Operation for Automobile Two Wheeler and Power Product business will remain at the Greater Noida facility.

As for the future plant, Honda Cars India confirmed that it is planning to launch a new hybrid car in our market by 2021. This upcoming model is expected to be the hybrid version of the Honda City which is currently on sale in other South Asian markets. In the international market, the Honda City e:HEV is fitted with Honda Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system. This hybrid powertrain comprises of two electric motors and a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine. One motor is used to power the wheels while the other motor is employed to start the engine. Together, these two electric motors can churn out 109 PS and 253 Nm. The internal combustion engine is used as a supplementary source of power, which can provide 98 PS and 127 Nm. This powertrain comes with a CVT gearbox.

Besides the new City Hybrid, Honda is also planning to launch two new SUV models as well. These upcoming SUVs include the new Honda HR-V and a sub-4 meter SUV which might be called Honda ZR-V.
