Hyundai Creta & Venue Bag Top Honours on SUV Sales Charts

The second-largest automaker in India, Hyundai, is maintaining its leading position in the competitive SUV segment in the country. Last month, the Hyundai Creta and Venue kept the leading positions in the sales chart.

Hyundai’s newest offering, the new-gen Hyundai Creta, has received positive responseS from the Indian auto customers. This is reflected in the fact that the bookings for the SUV have crossed 80,000 units in less than five months. Up to 11,758 units of the Hyundai Creta were delivered in August 2020, which helps it become the best-selling SUV in India. The SUV beat the Kia Seltos, which is also the second top-selling in India with 10,655 units sold last month.

The Hyundai Venue also kept the first position in the sale chart by beating other popular sub-4-metre SUVs like the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. Up to 8,267 units of the Hyundai Venue were sold last month, recording a decrease of more than 1,000 units in comparison with that in the same period last year when the South Korean auto manufacturer sold 9,342 units of the Venue. Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport, respectively, kept the second, third, fourth and fifth positions with sales number of 6,903 units, 5,179 units, 2,990 units and 2,757 units.

The new Hyundai Creta receives its power from three motor options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated gasoline burner with 115 PS against 144 Nm, a 1.5-litre oil burner with 115 PS against 250 Nm and a 1.4-litre turbo petrol unit with 140 PS against 242 Nm. The transmission duties are undertaken by a standard 6-speed MT, an optional CVT on the NA gasoline burner and 6-speed torque converter on the oil burner. The Hyundai Venue is also powered by three motor options. The 1.2-litre petrol motor is good for 83 PS against 114 Nm and is mated to a 5-speed MT. The 1.5-litre oil unit can deliver 100 PS against 240 Nm and is also paired with the manual transmission. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol unit can produce 120 PS against 171 Nm and is coupled with a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed iMT.

The South Korean auto company is now preparing for the launch of the new-gen i20. The hatchback is expected to be launched in the festive seaon.
