The new generation Hyundai i20 is due to go on sale in the Indian market next year. Along with the launch of regular Hyundai i20, the South Korean carmaker is also planning to offer the performance-oriented i20 N variant to the Indian customers. Prior to the launch of the i20 N, Hyundai added i30 N hatchback and i30 N Fastback to its N range in 2017 and 2018, respectively. This year will see the debut of the N variant of the current-gen i20. Recently, the Hyundai i20 N was seen in a car park in South Korea.

The Hyundai i20 N features a sportier styling package than its conventional sibling. As it will be a performance variant, the i20 N will sport bigger wheels, have lower ground clearance, come with updated exhaust pipe and even highlights on the brake callipers. Compared with the regular version, the i20 N is expected to come with a couple of mechanical twists. Expect the i20 N to feature a stiffer suspension, reworked steering for more direct ratio steering as well as a more aerodynamic chassis.

India-spec Hyundai i20 N is expected to get the 1.0-litre T-GDI engine

For the international market, the Hyundai i20 N will be powered by a 1.6-litre T-GDI engine which generates a maximum power of around 200 PS. In India, Hyundai i20 N is expected to get the locally-assembled 1.0-litre T-GDI engine. It is the same engine that powers the Hyundai Venue. This engine comes at a more affordable cost, hence, ensuring a competitive price for the final product. It is expected that, on the i20 N version, the power output will measure around 120 PS. Of two transmission options available abroad, which include a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 6-speed manual gearbox, the i20 N is likely to get the 6-speed MT. The i20 N variant will compete with the Volkswagen Polo GTI and Ford Fiesta ST. After the i20, the next model to get the N performance variant will be the Hyundai Tucson.
