Hyundai-Kia Aim To Achieve One Million Annual Car Production In Next Three Years

With the debut of its subsidiary Kia Motor, Hyundai Motor Company has yet again carved out its footprint in the Indian market. The South Korean auto manufacturer has revealed its plan for the Indian operation in the next three years, targeting to have as many as one million cars rolled out from Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur factory in Tamil Nadu as well as Kia’s Anantapur plant based out in Andhra Pradesh.

Hyundai Motor's subsidiary, Kia has marked its debut in India with the arrival of the Seltos which is set to be launched in August 2019.

By achieving that astonishing feat, Hyundai would become the second automaker in the country to create that benchmark after Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Currently, Hyundai already releases 7 Lakh vehicles from its facilities while Kia’s new Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh has installed capacity of 3 Lakh units, leading to a combined volume of 1 million units.

Hyundai-Kia is targeting to cross the milestone of 1 million car production in India on a yearly basis.

For future development, Kia will bring in a range of new products for India with the aim of entering the top five leading carmakers in the country by 2022. Besides, since Hyundai’s production base has been operating to the fullest already, Kia’s Andhra facility should be used for the mass production of the new-gen Hyundai Elite i20 at the initial stage and all. Kia’s officials also confirmed that the company’s production plants might be open to manufacturing Hyundai vehicles in India in the future, for the sake of earning a bigger market share. Within the next three years, Kia wants to grab as much as 5 per cent market share in the Indian space, combining with Hyundai’s 17 per cent to strengthen its presence in the country.

That being said, following the United States, China, Europe and South Korea, India is projected to be the fifth largest market of Kia by 2022. The company is set to launch an all-new MPV based on the Seltos’s platform after the introduction of the Kia Seltos in India. This platform will underpin the next-gen 2020 Hyundai Creta as well.
