Hyundai Kona EV Sales Reach 1 Lakh Milestone

Within two years of its debut, Hyundai has sold over 1 lakh units of the Kona EV across the globe. This car is available in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 23.86 lakh.

Hyundai Kona Electric SUV made its debut back in 2017. The car was later rolled out in the Korean market in 2018 and launched in other countries at a later time period. Recently, Hyundai confirmed that within two years of the launch, the Kona Electric SUV has reached the 1 lakh sale milestone in the global market. One-quarter of the cumulative sales are from South Korea, the company's home market. Hyundai has set the target of selling 5.6 lakh units of BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles) by 2025.

In India, Hyundai Kona was launched last year. In the international market, the car is available with two choices of batteries a 39.2 kWh and 64.0 kWh. However, in the Indian car market, only the 39.2 kWh battery version is offered.

Hyundai Kona EV derives power from a permanent magnet synchronous motor which can produce a top power of 136 bhp and peak torque of 395 Nm. The car can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.7 seconds. For the India-spec version with a 39.2kWh battery pack, the Kona can offer a range of 452 km on one single charge. Using the 50kW DC fast charger, the battery pack can be charged up to 100% in less than an hour while with standard AC power outlet, it takes around 6 hours to fully charge the battery. It also features regenerative braking with paddle shifters and multiple driving modes.

On the inside, the Hyundai Kona EV is fully-equipped with a host of upmarket features like heads-up display, wireless charging, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Some highlight of the available comfort-enhancing features of the electric SUV include heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, 10-way adjustable driver seat, leather-wrapped steering wheels, electric parking brake, power windows, and heated wing mirror.

Hyundai is offering the Kona EV in a range of exterior colour schemes, including Blue Black, Silver, and White as well as a dual-tone option (White body with black roof). The dual-tone version costs Rs 20,000 extra. In India, Hyundai is offering this electric SUV with a 3 year/unlimited warranty as standard along with an 8 year/1.6 lakh kilometre warranty for the battery.
