Hyundai To Expand Production Capacity By 2019 with Smart Manufacturing 4.0 Practice

Hyundai looks to its Sriperumbudur manufacturing plant to increase the production capacity from 713,000 units to 750,000 units in 2019.

On Friday, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said it will expand its production capacity from 7.13 lakh units to 7.5 lakh units by 2019, to meet the safety and emission norms before its mandatory industry implementation. They expect to adopt the latest technology without using any additional future investment.

Hyundai’s manufacturing plant has a total area of 535 acres which is replete with over 590 generation 4 robots, quality and testing capabilities along with flexible engine plants.

The Global body build line has 100 percent Weld Automation along with the flexibility to produce 5 models in a single line.

Speaking about the plant capacity expansion and future readiness, Y K Koo, MD and CEO, Hyundai India, said,

He also added

"The Hyundai Motor future ready plant is a true expression of manufacturing excellence. Our journey in India started with SANTRO equipped with Multi-Fuel Injection and Bhorot Stage ll technologies, the first in the industry and today through our Smart and Value engineering we have been producing the most Iconic and awarded cars from our plant." 

In June this year, Hyundai India reached a number of 8 million cars rolled out in India. The next target of the carmaker is to breach the 10 million units mark by early 2021. The expansion of its production capacity is considered one of the key measures in achieving that target. The company also mentioned to keep up with the Government's vision to bring electric vehicles to India. Hyundai's smart plant is gearing up to produce electric vehicles as well, and its first electric SUV, most likely the Kona Electric, will come by 2020.
