India-bound 8th-Gen Toyota Camry Unveiled In Thailand

The 8th-Gen ASEAN-spec Toyota Camry has made its public debut in Thailand. It is likely to hit the Indian roads in 2019.

The new generation of the luxury sedan, Toyota Camry has been unveiled in Thailand with the introductory price of around Rs 31.99 lakh to Rs 39.82 lakh. This time around, the new Camry will feature the most comprehensive upgrades in design and equipment that is pledged to be a blockbuster in the Indian market. It is projected to launch with four variants including 2.0G AT, 2.5G AT, 2.5 HV AT and 2.5 HV Premium AT along with two engine options.

1. Design

The overall design of the Thai-spec Camry remains unchanged as the model released in North America. This celebrated model attracts the opposite person by a more daring sporty look in a combination of elegance with modernity. Besides, the 2019 Toyota Camry will come up with a couple of restyled design and cosmetic features such as

  • A wide and low sporty front grille

  • Revised LED headlamps

  • Renewed bonnet design

  • New alloy wheels

  • Revived bumper and tail light section

The premium saloon of the ASEAN-spec Toyota Camry will be built on the TNGA platform which has been used in the all-new Toyota RAV4 and increased in dimensions. It will get 35mm longer, 15 mm wider and 25mm taller. The wheelbase will be 50 mm longer than the outgoing model that leads to a size-up of the rear legroom.

2. Safety Features

The 2019 Toyota Camry will offer customers the world’s class advanced safety features which are new traction control, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, hill-start control along with seven airbags.

Also, the higher variants will furnish with added features such as lane departure warnings, pre-collision system, radar cruise control and automatic high-beam lights.  

3. Interiors

Moving to the interiors, the Thai-spec will witness a list of state-of-the-art features that offer a lot of comfort goodies. It will come equipped with

  • A 4.2-inch MID (multi-information display) in the electronic instrument cluster

  • Wireless charging

  • Remote Keyless entry

  • Leather upholstery

  • 8-way adjustable power front seats

  • Heads-up display, rear reclining seats, 9-airbags and onboard WiFi (for top-spec trims)

4. Engine

The powertrain of the eighth generation of Toyota Camry will be available with two power options including a 2.0-litre petrol engine that churns out 167 bhp and 199 Nm of peak torque and an optional 2.5-litre dynamic force engine that makes 209 bhp/ 250 Nm units. The former is mated to a 6-speed torque converter unit while the latter is paired with an 8-speed torque converter.

The range-topping trim outsources its power from a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder hybrid motor paired to a CVT transmission. It can produce 211 bhp of max power and 202 Nm of peak torque. The batteries are placed under the rear passenger seats aimed at keeping the low point of balance.

This time Toyota offers a variety of powerhouse options in the new Camry variants

The much-awaited model is scheduled to land in the Indian shores in 2019 in only Hybrid version. It is highly likely to participate in the race with the likes of Skoda Superb and Honda Accord Hybrid. The starting price of the sedan might be positioned at Rs 37.223 lakh (ex-showroom).
