India-bound Honda HR-V Takes A Moose Test [Video]

Honda HR-V will be the first mid-size SUV in Honda's India-bound range.

Honda India currently fields three SUV models in the market, namely Honda WRV, BR-V and CR-V. However, none of these position in the mid-size SUV category. In the upcoming time, Honda will introduce a new model to fill the space. Honda HR-V, Honda’s first India-spec mid-size SUV, will slot between the Honda WR-V and flagship SUV Honda CR-V. Once launched, this SUV will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Kia Seltos. Known as Honda Vezel in the global market, Honda HR-V is currently seen undergoing moose test.

During a standard moose test, a vehicle will bypass obstacles along the way. The test is designed to examine the performance of vehicles when taking abrupt direction changes. Performing sudden direction changes in a controllable and composed way is one crucial criterion to determine the overall competence of a vehicle. The test can help us to foresee how the vehicle performs in real-life situations, supposing when an animal suddenly gets in the way or when the driver spots an unexpected obstruction on road.

Honda HR-V Moose Test

On the video, Honda HR-V takes the same performance test in which the HR-V swiftly does three successive direction changes. During the test, Honda HR-V is claimed to run at a speed of 78 kmph. At the first attempt, Honda HR-V swings three cones out of their spots. However, in the second time, as the driver gets used to how the car manners, Honda HR-V is now able to make swift and sharp turns without hitting any cones. With that being said, there are still certain body rolls after each swerve. According to the test driver, the Honda HR-V manages to deliver a safe and nimble performance during the test. The steering, even though not sharp enough, is decently precise.

The recent years have seen significant growth in the segment of mid-size SUVs. In the first half of 2019, the India auto market has witnessed the launch of several mid-size SUV models including the Kia Seltos, MG Hector. Honda currently has no representative in this segment. With the new Honda HR-V, Honda will soon fill the space between the WR-V and CR-V.

Honda HR-V will be launched in the India market soon

The new mid-size SUV will share some design cues with the CR-V. Not only the exterior but also the interior of the HR-V also shares some identical features with the CR-V. For example, Honda HR-V will get the same large touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, MID and connectivity features.

The power options for the Honda HR-V is not confirmed yet. However, it is expected that Honda India will include a 1.5-litre i-VTEC and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC motor. These engines are available on the Honda City, and both are BSVI-compliant. The price of the Honda HR-V is expected to range from Rs 11 to 17 lakh.
