International-spec Kia SP2i To Be Named Seltos – Production Version Spied

The established South Korean carmaker Kia Motors will mark their entrance to India market with the subcompact SUV based on the SP Concept. Kia has showcased the concept Kia SP as well as the near-production concept Kia SP Signature to various motor shows like 2018 Auto Expo or 2019 Seoul Motor Show. Besides India, Kia will also launch this model in other international markets. Currently, spy shots published by Autoblog have revealed the exterior look of this SUV from different angles ahead of its launch. These spy images also confirm that Kia’s new subcompact will be named Kia Seltos, at least for the international market. It is still unclear if Kia will keep this for India-spec model. The official launch in India will take place on 20^th June.

Kia Seltos (SP2i) is seen without camouflage for the first time

The pre-launch Kia Seltos was seen with white exterior colour. As expected, the production Kia SP2i is nearly identical to the SP Singature Concept. The Seltos has a futuristic and boldly-sculptured design. At the fascia, Kia gives the Seltos sleek headlights with LED DRLs and of course, the signature Tiger Nose grille of Kia. On the bumper, the SUV is equipped with vertically-stacked fog light housing. Notably, Kia has accentuated the chrome element throughout the front face, for example, around the grille, headlights or the foglights.

Kia’s new compact SUV Seltos shows a strong taste for sporty and aggressive design, especial on the side and rear profile. The roofline is sloping toward the rear, creating a strong floating effect. Also, the roof-mounted rails and black plastic cladding on the wheel arches are added to make the sportiness pronounced.

The rear of the Seltos keeps strongly sculpture from the concept car. The chrome bar connecting thin wrap-around headlights on each end might remind us of the design of the Range Rover Evoque. Staying coherent with the front design, the rear also gets a considerable use of chrome finish around the exhausted pipes and the chrome bar on the tailgate.

In one picture, we could grasp a quick look at the interior. It seems that the Seltos will feature a premium design. The Seltos might get a digital display for the instrument cluster. The new sub-compact is expected to come with multiple drive modes as well. Previously, the sketch teaser has confirmed the large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

About the powertrain, the Kia Seltos will receive power from either a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine or a 1.5-litre diesel engine. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be available as standard. Another automatic gearbox option would be on offer as well.

India-spec Kia Seltos is expected to price around Rs 10-16 lakh (ex-showroom). After launch, it will pit against Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur, Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass.
