Ford is working on the next-generation EcoSport, which is expected to go on sale by next year. Here's a neat rendering that depicts, how the car would look like.

Ford launched the EcoSport in India for the first time in 2013. It is almost 7 years old now and is due for a generation change. The carmaker is currently working over the next-generation of the compact SUV. It has been internally codenamed as BX775. It will be underpinned by a modified version of Ford’s B platform, which underpins the outgoing EcoSport. It is expected to go on sale globally by 2021. However, here’s a rendering that gives an idea of how the next-gen EcoSport would look like.

The rendering has been created by Kleber Silva. Silva’s iteration of the next-gen EcoSport is completely different from the outgoing car. It, however, borrows its radiator grille and headlamps from the recently launched Ford Puma. But it follows a more cohesive approach to its design as it hardly feels like a bloated hatchback from any angle. The front gets a large skid plate that surrounds the lower air dam, and the bumper features sharp creases and a busy design for the foglamp housings.

The next-gen Ford Ecosport will source its powertrain from the Mahindra XUV300.

Sideways, the car uses typical crossover elements. It gets black cladding on the squared-off wheel arches and the doors. The windows line increases gradually towards the C-pillar. There’s an upward kink after that. The same pattern is followed for the roofline to give it a floating roof like appeal. The rear-facet draws inspiration from the bigger Escape. It gets a high-set rear windshield with Escape-like tail lamps. The number plate housing has moved upwards on the tailgate from the bumper, while the bumper now gets a silver-finished skid plate.  Overall, the design looks much better than the renderings we have come across till date.

The rear facet of the next-gen Ecosport will not have a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

The next-gen Ford Ecosport is expected to come with a 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol engine. It will belt out a peak power output of 135 BHP. The India-spec car, on the other hand, would get a different power plant. It is expected to feature the 1.2L mStallion turbo-petrol engine from Mahindra’s stable. This motor is capable of churning out 120 PS of peak power output and a max. torque output of 230 Nm.
