Brazilian media outlet Auto Esporte has recently revealed new information about the upcoming 7-seater version of the Jeep Compass SUV.

According to recent media reports, the upcoming 7-seater Jeep SUV, based on the Compass, will be launched in the Brazilian market in 2021. The car is likely to be christened the ‘Grand Compass’ upon its debut. Test vehicles have already been spotted during road tests.

The Jeep Grand Compass will take design cues from the upcoming Compass facelift, which means there will be significant changes to the interior and exterior. The front grille design is expected to have the same 7-vertical slat design as the current model, but will probably be placed higher than before. The headlamps will be redesigned slightly, as will the fog lamps. The side profile will remain the same, except for the longer rear overhang and the bigger rear quarter-glass behind the C-pillar. The tail-section will also be redesigned slightly, especially the taillights.

There have also been reports suggesting that the current 1.4-litre ‘MultiAir II’ engine will be replaced by a new 1.3-litre ‘Firefly’ engine. This new, turbocharged petrol motor will be available in two states of tune- 150PS/270Nm and 180PS/270Nm. Apart from that, the 2-litre ‘MultiJet II’ diesel engine will also be available in select markets, like India. This engine is also available in two states of tune- 140PS/350Nm and 170PS/350Nm. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque-converter automatic, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, and a 9-speed torque-converter automatic. Except for the 6-speed automatic, all other gearboxes are available in the India-spec model.

The Indian debut of the Jeep Grand Compass is also expected to happen in 2021, sometime after the car’s Brazil launch. Currently, there are no competitors to the 7-seater Compass, but they’ll be introduced before the Jeep hits Indian roads. Tata has been teasing the Gravitas for quite a long time now, and we expect the car to be launched before the year ends. Also, MG had showcased the Hector Plus at the 2020 Auto Expo, and we expect that car to go on retail around the same time. The 7-seater Compass might go on sale shortly after.
