Jeep Compass diesel automatic launch will happen this month. The new powertrain variant is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh.

Jeep Compass marked its entry to the market in July 2017. At the moment, the regular Jeep Compass only offers automatic gearbox options for the petrol variants. The diesel-automatic drivetrain is only on offer on the offroad-focused variant Jeep Traikhawk. However, the high price of the Traikhawk might be a turn-off for customers with interest in this drivetrain option. Seeing a large demand for diesel-automatic powertrain, FCA will expand the range of the standard Jeep Compass by adding a new diesel-automatic option to the current line-up.

Jeep Compass diesel automatic is slated to launch this month at around Rs 25 lakh

Currently, Jeep Compass is available with engine option, a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel unit. On the regular Jeep Compass line-up, while the 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard across the range, the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission option is only available for the petrol range only. With the launch of the special variant, Jeep Compass Trailhawk last year, the diesel-automatic option was offered with but at a costly price tag of Rs 26.80 lakh. However, the hefty pricing will no longer an issue since Jeep is going to put out its diesel-automatic variant for the Compass which is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh.

A 9-speed automatic gearbox will be mated to the 2.0-litre diesel engine. The new drivetrain is likely to be introduced this month on the Limited Plus trim. Some dealerships are starting to accept the pre-bookings for the diesel-automatic Jeep Compass. At the expected price of Rs 25 lakh, the Jeep Compass diesel-automatic is Rs 1.5-2.0 lakh cheaper than the similar drivetrain on Trailhawk.

Similar to the Trainkhawk, the 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel mated to the automatic gearbox on the standard Compass will be compliant to the new BSVI emission norms. This engine is good for a peak power of Rs 173 PS and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. It is unlikely that this new powertrain will come with an all-wheel-drive system.

The current Jeep Compass Limited Plus is available with features like power front seats with memory function, automatic wiper and headlights which are likely to make its way to the new diesel-automatic variant. Along with these features, the new variant is expected to share some functions with the Trailhawk like cruise control and a start-stop button. Other comfort equipment like twin-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button start and 8.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility is likely to be included on the new configuration. In the meanwhile, FCA is working on the facelift of the Jeep Compass which is scheduled to launch next year. Get the latest news from the automobiles market, please visit IndianAuto.com.
