Kerala MVD Gets Tata Nexon EV For Patrolling Duties

The Indian carmaker Tata has started delivering Nexon EV to the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) of Kerala. MVD ordered 65 units of the electric SUV early this year. The Nexon EV will be used for the enforcement duties in the state and will also be part of the ‘Safe Kerala’ project. This project enforces motor vehicle act to make sure that the roads are safe. Here’s the first picture of the electric SUV delivered to the department. It also gets MVD logo at the front fascia and side profile of the SUV. It is not known that if this vehicle carries additional equipment like radio and strobes.

But all the other MVD cars get these devices installed, and it is expected to be offered with Nexon EV too. The electric SUV features radar system sensors, cameras and much more. Right now, Tata Nexon EV is the top-selling electric car in the Indian market. It is retailed in three different trim levels namely- XM, XZ Plus and XZ Plus LUX. The electric SUV is sold at a starting price of Rs 13.99 lakh for the entry-level XM variant and goes all the way up to Rs 14.99 lakh for the top-spec XZ Plus LUX trim. The sales volume of Nexon EV has been steadily increasing from the past few months. The automaker sold 78 units of the electric SUV in May 2020, 188 units in June and 286 units in July.

Tata Motors claims that the Nexon EV will grab around 60 per cent market share in the electric vehicle space by this FY. In term of looks, it looks quite similar to that of the new Nexon facelift, But the Nexon EV gets some Blue accents along with EV badging to differentiate from the regular model of the SUV. It is powered by a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that produces 129bhp of power and 245 Nm of twisting force. It is rated to offer a range of 312 km in one full charger.
