Kia Carnival MPV to Launch in India by 2020

Kia Motors India is going to launch the Grand Carnival MPV in India in 2020 with a view to expanding its line-up in this emerging market.

The Grand Carnival MPV (also called the Carnival or Sedona in other markets) is part of Kia Motors India’s plan to expand its Auto Expo line-up. It has received positive reactions from the auto community. Kia Grand Carnival MPV launch in India is only a matter of time and projected to be by 2020. The South Korean automaker also plans to sell about 1000 vehicles a month. With a number of new MPVs reaching the Indian auto market like the Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Innova Crysta, the Datsun GO+ and the Tata Hexa, the Grand Carnival is expected to increase Kia’s competitiveness in the teeming Indian MPV segment.

In terms of the dimension, the new Kia product has a 5,115mm length, a 1,985mm width and a 1,755mm height. It will be considerably bigger than its direct rival, Toyota Innova Crysta.

The Grand Carnival is an MPV with five doors which is globally offered in 7, 8, 9 and even 11-seat versions. For the Indian auto market, the seven-seat variant is the most expected. Kia also offers a version with captain’s seats for the middle row, with the movable footrest, both of which are likely to be the features equipped on the version to be launched in India.

Commenting on the expected launch of the vehicle, Sun Wook Hwang, senior general manager, marketing and PR, Kia Motors India, said,

“In India, buyers are mainly chauffeur-driven. In the US and domestic market, there are many luxury features for the driver and co-driver. (For India) We want to set up luxury features in the second row, like a business-class seat.”

Some of the other interior top-notch features of the Carnival MPV would be

  • Dual sunroof

  • Front and curtain airbags

  • Three-zone temperature control

  • Multiple USB charging ports

While the global-spec Carnival is powered by a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine with a power output of 200hp and a Lambda II 3.3 MPI petrol motor. The Indian-bound model is expected to receive power from a turbocharged diesel motor which delivers a max power of 196bhp and 441Nm of peak torque.  But the final exact mechanical specifications of the Indian Kia Carnival will be informed later by the automaker, may be altered a little bit to produce better fuel efficiency in the Indian conditions.

The India Kia Grand Carnival will be powered by a diesel turbocharged engine

Once launched in India, the Kia Carnival is likely to have an introductory price of Rs 22 Lakh and can effectively take on the likes of the Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Fortuner, Honda CRV, forthcoming 7-seat Tata Harrier and Mahindra Alturas.
