Kia Compact SUV and Carnival MPV Confirmed For 2020 Auto Expo

Kia Motors has had a good start with the Kia Seltos SUV in our country. Now, the South Korean company has already targeted key market segments for its next run, including the new Kia Carnival MPV and a Venue-rivalling compact SUV for India. These two new Kia models are likely to have its public showcase at the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo.

Kia Motors has identified its clear route for the Indian market with two new models due to enter our country.

Recently, Kia has revealed its plan to introduce the Carnival MPV as the company’s second product for India. Slotted into the premium MPV segment, the new Kia offering will stack up against Toyota Innova Crysta. Spotted on test alongside the Innova Crysta, the Kia Carnival will come with a bigger size and more upmarket features as compared to the Japanese counterpart.

As launch dates are still yet to be confirmed, we expect the South Korean brand to launch the MPV at or after the 2020 Auto Expo. The all-new car will be produced at Kia’s production plant based out in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Reports said that the deliveries will commence in February 2020.

Kia's second car for our market should be the Carnival MPV, followed by a compact SUV codenamed QYi.

Furthermore, as we stated above, Kia’s third product for our country will be a subcompact SUV codenamed QYI. Following the success of the Kia Seltos as its bookings number has crossed 50,000 units already, the Kia QYI compact SUV will sit right below the Seltos, and compete with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport, among others, in this hotly-contested segment. Reportedly, the new QYI will be unveiled at 2020 Auto Expo in the pre-production form with its launch lined up for some months later.

It’s worth noting that the Kia Carnival sold globally is set to get a facelift this year but the model bound for the Indian market will be a tweaked version of the existing model. The upcoming India-spec Kia Carnival might include features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, power-sliding rear doors, and a range of driver-assistive equipment.

Powering the Kia Carnival will be a 2.2-litre diesel engine that comes linked to an automatic transmission. Whereas the Kia QYI is expected to have a lot of things in common with the Hyundai Venue sibling, including the engine options.
