Kia Begins Made-in-India Kia Seltos SUV Exports

471 units of Kia Seltos has been shipped from India to the South Asian and Middle East countries in September 2019.

Launched on August 22, 2019, the Kia Seltos has been really going like a bomb in the country as it witnessed over 50,000 bookings in less than 50 days from its launch. Now, Kia Motors has already started exporting made-in-India Seltos SUV to other parts of the world from the Chennai port. The first consignment of the locally-made Seltos SUV (471 units) has been shipped to the South Asian and Middle East regions. Reports said that shipment will be made to South America as well.

Kia has managed to export 471 units of made-in-India Seltos to some other countries.

On September 5, the Memorandum of Agreement between Chennai Port Trust and Kia with Glovis India Anantpur – its logistic partner has been signed and takes validity until 2029. Chennai Port is said to be providing tailor-made facilities as well as some concessional benefits of exporting vehicles for Kia Motors India. The South Korean automobile manufacturer has invested around Rs 7,755 crore (US $ 1.1 billion) into its plant in Anantapur which stretches out 536 acres of land and has a capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles annually.

Also, this plant is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to manufacture hybrid and EVs in the future. It is known that about 30 per cent of its total production from Anantapur facility will constitute exports. The company also has a plan to double up the total investments to Rs 14,100 Crore (US $ 2 billion) for the expansion of products, operations and research and developments.

Shortly after launch, the Kia Seltos has defeated the Hyundai Creta to become the best-selling car in the segment.

Kia has created enjoyed overwhelming success in the country within just two months of the launch of its first and only product in India currently. In a short span of time, the Seltos has outsold the MG Hector three times and even managed to dethrone the segment-leading Hyundai Creta to become the bestseller in the SUV segment. As the car has clocked more than 50,000 bookings mark, the waiting period for the Seltos now soars up to three months depending on the variants.

As revealed by the company, the higher variants of the Kia Seltos are witnessing the highest demand and the DCT option is highly preferred for the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine models. Kia’s second product for India will be the premium Kia Carnival MPV.
