Kia has started accepting the booking of the upcoming Sonet. Once launched, it’ll rival with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon.
With the Kia Sonet making its world premiere earlier today, Kia Motors India has commenced the bookings for the upcoming sub-compact-SUV. The carmaker is enjoying tremendous success in India because of its first compact SUV, the Kia Seltos, making it big on the sales charts. Earlier this year, the automaker even launched the Carnival MPV, which is doing quite well in terms of overall sales. Now, the carmaker has decided to expand its portfolio by entering the most competitive sub-4-meter SUV segment with the Sonet. Once launched, it’ll rival with the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.
Starting today, a potential buyer can book the all-new Kia SUV at any of the authorized dealerships across the country. Kia will offer the Sonet with three different powertrain options. The first one will be a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel mill that produces 100 PS of peak power and 240 Nm of torque. While the same engine option is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission on the Hyundai Venue, the Sonet will offer both manual and automatic transmission options.
The new sub-compact SUV will also be offered with 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor options. The former puts out power and torque outputs of 83 PS and 113, respectively, while the latter develops 120 PS and 172 Nm of twisting force. The 1.2-litre NA gasoline motor will come paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the 1.0-litre turbo diesel powertrain will come coupled to a 6-speed MT, 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT.
`In terms of looks, the production-spec Kia Sonet looks a lot like the concept model whocase at the Auto Expo 2020. It employs a ‘Tiger Nose’ grille upfront, silver-coloured faux skid plate and a sporty looking bumper. Illumination duties will be done by LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. The side profile of the SUV will get blacked-out pillars, all black plastic cladding, sloping roofline and bold creases. The rear profile of the SUV will feature wrap-around LED taillights adjoined by red coloured reflector strip, a sporty looking rear bumper and Kia badging.
