While the Auto Industry has shown a decline in sales as a whole, a few companies have registered an upwards trend. Kia Motors is the biggest example of such success.

Kia Motors India had previously had a brilliant start to the year, with 14,024 units sold in January 2020. In February, the company outdid itself, selling a record-high number of 15,644 units, 14,024 for the Seltos and 1,620 of the Carnival.

Kia Seltos has become the best-selling SUV in India

This has pushed Kia to third position in the Indian market, right after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, followed not-so-closely by Tata Motors (12,430 units). In fact, the combined sales of Tata, MG, VW, and Nissan (total 15,185 units) fall short of Kia's by a fair margin. Also, Kia Seltos has been the highest selling SUV in the country for the second consecutive month.

“I am extremely delighted with the response and acceptance Indian customers have given us. Our latest offering the Carnival has been received well and this has helped adding to our sales numbers. This not only testifies the quality, reliability and design prowess of our vehicles, but also gives a hint that India is evolving and Indian customers now don’t just settle but opt for better product offerings. It’s a proud moment for all of us at Kia Motors India who have worked diligently to achieve this feat. With upcoming new compact SUV, Sonet launch slated for the second half of the year, I am confident that we will continue to carry this momentum through-out this year."

Kia Motors India has registered a growth of 1.3%, where the overall passenger vehicle sales have dropped down by 4.4% against that of January 2020. The company is also planning to launch another, smaller SUV for India, dubbed Kia Sonet. The new sub-4-metre SUV was showcased as a concept during Auto Expo 2020, and will probably enter production by the end of the year or early next year.

Kia Carnival has had a strong initial response from customers

Apart from that, Kia is also planning to add a new trim-level to the Carnival MPV. Called the ‘Hi-Limousine’, this will be the new top-spec trim for the Carnival. A similar treatment could also be done for the Seltos, where a new top-trim for the SUV can be based on the S-Line concept showcased at the Auto Expo.
